Cross-border co-operation between the communities of the Euroregion EuroBalkans is of primary importance for the prosperity, security and peaceful coexistence of nations in South-Eastern Europe.

Appropriate strategies need to be devised. Analysis of the present economic situation of the region is an assessment for the more pressing needs in terms of infrastructure, investment and administrative capability and for the identification of the main obstacles to the movement of persons, goods and services across the borders.

There is also a big potential for social and economic development of the region, based on the dynamism of entrepreneurs, the motivation of the civil society and of NGOs, and the readiness of local authorities to play a full role in promoting the development of their communities.

These elements could eventually lead, through appropriate “capacity building” to the setting up of a common co-operation structure that makes Euroregion EuroBalkans a leader in covering the area across the Bulgarian, Serbian and Macedonian borders.

The focus would be placed on the following themes: regional development policies and cross-border regional development strategies; private sector development; capacity building at local level including the civil society; education, youth training and cultural co-operation;
